Today we will be installing 2 leds into the Nunchuck for the Wii, to get a nice backlight effect like this;

--==TooLz==--

  • 2x LEDs (I used blue and white LEDS so no resistors were needed, if you use a different color LED make sure to check if a resistor is needed from the 3.3v source)
  • Triwing screwdriver
  • 15w Soldering Iron
  • 30 AWG wire
  • Soldering paste/flux
  • Tweezers (optional)
  • Dremel

Lets get started. 1st you are going to have to open the Nunchuck. Take your triwing and remove the 2 screws in the back.
Gently wiggle the bottom end, moving towards the top, and the 2 shell pieces should come right apart.

Next take the upper casing flip it over and remove a small amount of plastic with a dremel (or any other means) so the led legs have room to get by, like so;

Once you have made some clearance room, its time to get soldering.
Use some flux and solder some wires to the leds. (solder in your resistor to the positive(+) leg of your LED if using a lower voltage/different color LED)

Place the first LED on the bottom of the joystick assembly, and solder the negative (-) to the black solder joint and the positive (+) to the lower red point, as shown;

Now you can stop here, but you will have a half glowing Nunchuck.

So lets keep going, take your 2nd led and place it on the top of the PCB above the joystick assembly, & use a little hot glue to hold it in place.
Use some flux and solder some wires to the leds. (solder in your resistor to the (+) leg of your LED if using a lower voltage LED)

Connect the Positive (+) and Negative (-) to the same points, OR solder them to the legs of LED1.

Put it all back together, and don’t forget the screws, and you should have something that looks like this;

Congratulations,  you now have a "PimPed out" Nunchuck!!!!
